Dive areas
Raja Ampat or ‘Four Kings’, is the name given to these islands and comes from a local myth. The four main areas offering itineraries are: Raja Ampat, Derawan Islands, Banda Sea and Triton Bay. If you haven’t explored the diving in this area, it is fantastic due to the diversity and abundance of marine life. Located in the heart of The Coral Triangle, Raja Ampat is known to have the richest coral reef ecosystem in the world. The area of the Four Kings is comprised of over 1500 islands and home to 600 types of corals, 1,500 fish species and over 600 types of mollusks.
In the last few years the Indonesian province of Papua, in the western part of the island of New Guinea, became famous because of its untouched, colourful reefs and great island scenery. Waigeo, Batanta, Salawati and Misool - the 4 Kings - are the main islands that make up Raja Ampat, or “4 Kings”, an area which consists of more than 1500 islands in total. The biodiversity of Raja Ampat is unique. In this archipelago not only are there hundreds of different types of coral and thousands of species of fish but 75% of all known hard corals worldwide are found here. More than 4.6 million hectares of pristine underwater realms are waiting with mangroves, spectacular coral gardens, deep walls, giant schools of fish, manta rays, wobbegong sharks, as well as nudibranchs and critters.
