Bohol belongs to the island group of the Visayas where you can get pretty good diving. The diving around Bohol is varied with beautiful coral gardens in shallow water. Main attractions are the steep walls with caves, overhangs and crevices. The intact underwater world around Bohol offers some exciting diving for underwater photographers.
The beautiful underwater scenery is made up of sea fans, soft corals and feather stars. Many colourful nudibranchs, frog fish, snake eels, lungfish and sea snakes have made this their home. With a little luck larger animals can be seen from February to April.
The richness in fish and other marine species makes diving around Bohol's reefs a wonderful experience. The reefs are in an intact condition, no coral bleaching, and no dynamite fishing.
Diving is possible all year round, the best time is November to May. The year-round water temperature is between 25°C and 30°C (77°-86°F). A 3 or 5 mm (1/8 to ¼ inch) wetsuit is sufficient. The diving highlights are Balicasag and Cabilao Island. The nearest recompression chamber is located in Cebu City.
